SMITHFIELD
On Nov. 25, as a result of a joint investigation between Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office, Meherrin Drug Task Force, Norfolk Police Department, Virginia State Police, Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control and the DEA, arrests were made on Lenore Denise Artis, Age 29, and Corey Lavelle Spratley, Age 28, both of the 8700 block of Smithfield Apartments Lane, Smithfield.

Lenore Denise Artis was charged with:

• One count — conspiracy possession with intent to distribute cocaine

• Two counts — abuse and neglect of children

Child Protective Services will also be investigating the child abuse and neglect charge.

Corey Lavelle Spratley was charged with:

• One count — conspiracy possession with intent to distribute cocaine

• Five counts — possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine — third or subsequent offense

Additional charges are pending on both subjects.

This case started in June 2014 and has resulted in the seizure of $2,582 cash, jewelry, a 2003 Isuzu Ascender SUV with a custom hidden trap installed, a Sig 40 caliber handgun and approximately $16,330 in street value of crack and cocaine.
