CAPRON
Three women are sharing their love of antiques and collecting them by opening a store, Vintage Country Charm in Capron.

Furniture, dishware, books, tools, Coca-Cola memorabilia and other collectibles, and even jewelry are immediately within sight at the first few steps inside the shop, which opened in early November.

“It’s been a dream of our for years,” Dorothy Greene of Suffolk said about creating such a place. “We love vintage and antiques. We’re all near retirement and want to do something to fill the time afterward. We want to do something we love.”

The we to whom she refers are sisters Diane Craddock of Walters and Carol Craddock of Ivor, who each have picked up furniture or collectibles on their own over the years. Enough so that their three households can fill storage units.

“McCoy Pottery got me started,” Greene said. “It went from that to whatever I see I like.”

She added that they seriously began making plans for the store six months ago. Coming across the location, building owner John Fox was contacted and quite agreeable to rent it to the sisters.

When selecting a piece, Greene likes to think on who had it before her.

“It makes me wonder about the history of the person. That’s why we really like collecting,” she said.

Diane Craddock also said that she’s willing to swap what she already has for something new.

In addition to collecting, she enjoys the interaction with customers.

“I like meeting new people,” Craddock said. “It’s like making new friends even if you’ll never see them again. You’re creating new memories.”

The shop is regularly open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. only on Saturdays and Sundays for now. By the way, there will be a Christmas Open House on Dec. 13-14.

Vintage Country Charm is located at 17093 Southampton Parkway, Capron. Call 650-3442 or 681-2598 for more information.
