Kate Marie “Datie” Morris Chitwood, 88, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday night, Nov. 11, 2014, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

She was born on Oct. 9, 1926, in Henry County to the late John and Alice Frye Morris. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Albert Pershing “A.P.” Chitwood, and four brothers and nine sisters. Mrs. Chitwood was the last surviving member of her family.

She was a homemaker and a self-employed hairdresser for many years.

Mrs. Chitwood was a member of Thomasson Heights Baptist Church, a loving mother and grandmother, and she will be sadly missed by her loving family.

She is survived by her two sons, Lannie and wife Linda Chitwood of Ivor, Virginia, Gary and wife Della Chitwood of Collinsville, her daughter, Debbie Hundley of Chesterfield, Virginia, six grandchildren, Rodney Hundley, Mark Chitwood, Kelly Lawson, LT. and Mrs. Daniel Peters, USN, Amber Martin, Meagan Chitwood, eight Great Grandchildren, special friends Juanita Morris, Judy Hamrick, and Shannon Chitwood, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her service of remembrance will be on Friday Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. in the Roselawn Chapel with Revs. Arnold Terry and Doby Salmons officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the Roselawn Chapel, and at other times at the home on 499 John Redd Blvd. in Collinsville, Virginia.
