On Tuesday, the Southampton High School Lady Indians traveled to Franklin to take on the Franklin High School Lady Broncos in a VHSL out-of-division TriRivers District Match. The Lady Indians took the win home in straight sets 25-15, 25-12 and 25-11.

The Lady Indians improved to 11-6, while Franklin dropped to 2-15.

In set 2, the Lady Broncos put together a rally after falling behind to tie it up at 10-all, then go ahead 11-10 on the next point. However, the Lady Broncos last score of the set would put them within 4 at 16-12, and the Lady Indians took it from there to win the set.

The Lady Broncos went up 2-1 in the first set, but they quickly fell behind 15-7. The Lady Broncos put together a little rally to reach 11, though, the Lady Indians were already at 22 points and were subbing in fresh jerseys.

“I thought we did well tonight,” said Lady Indians Head Coach Amy Davis. “We did not pass as strong as we should have, which led to us struggling a little to get as much offense as we’d normally like. But, a win is a win.”

Lady Broncos Head Coach Faith Hewett said she felt like her team, in a reboot year, played better against Southampton than they did earlier in the season.

“I think we worked more together in the first and second,” Hewett said. “We gave up a little in the third. But it was a good fight, and I’m proud of my girls.”

For Southampton, Allie Holt led the way in kills with 7, while Emma Drake was just behind her with 6. Drake also had 3 aces. Sarah Williams led with 7 aces, and Danielle Moore had 8 assists.
