4-Hers successful at shooting education events

WAKEFIELD
On June 28, 10 members of the Airfield 4-H Swamp Shooters 4-H Club gathered at the Airfield 4-H Center for the Southeast District 4-H Shoot. This event included competitive events in shotgun, riflery, pistol, air pistol, air rifle, archery and BB gun.

As a team, they did well and won the Team Trophy in Junior-Age Silhouettes (J. Emory Gillette, 12, of Zuni; AJ Jebson, 11, of Chesapeake; Dalton Gillette, 10, of Zuni). In addition, individual placings included the following: Dalton Gillette, Third Place Silhouettes; J. Emory Gillette, Third Place 3P (optic); Barton Metzgar, 16, of Suffolk, First Place 3P (iron sites) and Second Place Silhouettes; Julie Manning, 17, of Norfolk, Third Place Skeet; and Josilyn DuRall, 11, of Ivor, Second Place NLO Archery for Junior Division.

Sept. 13 and 14 was the State 4-H Shoot at the Holiday Lake 4-H Center near Appomattox. Those who participated were Matthew Shaffer, 15, Joshua Shaffer, 19, Andrew Botdorf, 17, and Adam Botdorf, 10, of Suffolk; Julie Manning; and J. Emory and Dalton Gillette. Matthew Shaffer earned Second Place in Senior No Let Off Archery.
