A Franklin man has been in custody since Thursday when local police arrested him for allegedly robbing a Southampton County man on Wednesday evening at Forest Pine Apartments.
Gregory Lamont Malone, 22, of the 100 block of Verna Street, has been identified as a suspect in the incident, according to Captain Tim Whitt, spokesman for the Franklin Police Department.
The unidentified 18-year-old victim reported to police that he and friends were hanging out near his car when another young man approached them to talk. However, he later pulled out a knife, robbed the victim of an undetermined amount of cash.
He then forced the man to drive him to a destination in downtown Franklin, where the suspect left on foot. The victim’s friends were not robbed.
The victim called police, and during the investigation Malone was identified as the suspect.
While officers tried to serve warrants to Malone on Thursday, he attempted to flee on foot, but the police were able to apprehend him.
Malone is charged with robbery, abduction and carjacking. He has been remanded to Western Tidewater Regional Jail where he is being held without bond.
