An 18-year-old Southampton County man was robbed at knife point while he was with friends at Forest Pine Apartments Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., said Captain Tim Whitt, spokesman for the Franklin Police Department.
While they were hanging out near the victims car, another young male approached them to talk. However, he later pulled out a knife, robbed the victim of an undetermined amount of cash. He then forced the victim to drive him to a destination in downtown Franklin, where the suspect left on foot. The friends of the victim were not robbed.
The victim called police, and during the investigation, Gregory Lamont Malone, 22, of the 100 block of Verna Street in Franklin, was identified as the suspect.
On Oct. 23, when trying to serve the warrants to Malone, he attempted to flee on foot but officers were able to apprehend him.
Malone is charged with robbery, abduction and carjacking. He has been remanded to Western Tidewater Regional Jail where he is being held without bond.
