FRANKLIN
An out of control birthday party led to an unidentified person firing two gun shots in the parking lot on the 100 block of Forest Pine Apartments while Franklin Police officers were present, said Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the Franklin Police Department.

At 2:11 a.m. Sunday, officers went to investigate at Forest Pine Apartments after a 911 hangup call. When they arrived on scene, they were met with a large disorderly crowd and yelling coming from one of the apartments.

While dispersing the crowd, officers came into contact with the resident, who was having a birthday party when a fight broke out and spilled into the parking lot.

Then, as vehicles were leaving the scene, someone fired two gun shots near the apartment complex. Due to the number of people present, the officers could not determine who fired the shots. Whitt said the shots were likely fired into the air, as they could not find anything that had been hit.

After many people had driven away, a family member of the resident continued to be disruptive in the apartment. After speaking with officers, however, the subject left the area. No injuries were reported.

Anyone with information as to who fired the gun shots is asked to call Franklin Police at 562-8575 or Franklin Crime Solvers at 562-8599. Information that leads to an arrest will earn the caller a cash reward.
