Lady Bronco volleyball team fights but loses to Lady Cougars

The Franklin High School Lady Bronco volleyball team put up a good fight before going down 3-1 to the Surry High School Lady Cougar team on Tuesday at the Franklin High School gym.

The Lady Cougars had no problem by easily taking the first game in the best of five series. The Lady Cougars opened in the first minutes of the game with a 7-4 lead. As play continued during this game, the visiting Cougars held the lead until the end winning with a score of 25-15.

Things reversed in the second game as the Lady Broncos jumped out with an early lead of 6-4. During this game both teams brought their best into play as the score was tied at 14-, 15-, 16-, and 24-all. After being tied at 24-all, lefty Catherine Brown’s serving put the game away for the home team with an impressive 26-24 win.

Entering game 3, once again the home team took the early lead with a score of 6-4. The Cougars cranked up the action and controlled the lead until the Broncos tied the game at 19-all. The score becoming tied again at 20-all, on the next point the home team eased ahead 21-20. Trading points again to tie at 22-all, the Cougars turned the tide and went on to take the game with a score of 25-22.

In the must win for the Broncos in game 4, the Cougars got out front quickly and never looked back. Going down the stretch the Broncos got as close as 23-20 but could not tie the game at any point and went down with a score of 25-21.

“The girls hustled and played their best and that was all that they could give us,” Lady Bronco Head Coach Faith Hewett said, adding about game two that, “when our momentum is up, we do a pretty good job.”
