Fed should not be able to override popular vote

To the Editor:

In response to the article in Wednesday’s edition on the first same-sex marriage recorded in Southampton County, I believe it should be noted that by popular vote the people of Virginia made their choice clear that same-sex marriage should not be allowed.

It seems odd how a federal court overrides popular sovereignty. When the federal government bends the will of the popular vote to force on the people what they have stated they do not want, something is broken.
