Mildred P. Burgess

FRANKLIN—Mildred Pfeiffer Burgess, 86, widow of Chester Walton Burgess Jr., passed away on Sept. 27, 2014, with her family by her bedside.

She was born in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of the late Adolph Gottleib Pfeiffer and Wilhelmina Elizabeth Toenges Pfeiffer. Mrs. Burgess was also predeceased by a brother, a sister, a grandson, Aaron, and a daughter- in-law, Rebecca.

She was a member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church and a former member of Hunterdale United Church of Christ, where she taught the 3-year-old’s class for many years, was a former Deaconess, a member of the choir, and a member of the Women’s Fellowship of the church.

She was a former Cub Scout Den Leader for Pack 27, Hunterdale and a holder of the Silver Fawn, Boy Scouts of America.

She was instrumental in helping start the Franklin Cooperative Ministry, starting with the Franklin Cooperative Clothing Closet (Ebenezer House). She was a long-time member of the Gideon Auxillary.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Chester Burgess III (Jeannie), Robert Burgess (Barbara), William Burgess (Ann), Dennis Burgess (Emily) and Benny Burgess (Liz); eight grandchildren, Randy, Michael, Chris, Carter (Annie), Matthew (Laura), Josh and Whitney Burgess and Kelly Lukens (Brad), a great-grandson, Callan; family friend, Sarah Paige Stroud; and caregivers, Debbie Smith and Sue Drake.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. James H. Hyatt Jr officiating. Burial will follow at Southampton Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Ann and Bill Burgess, 71 Crescent Drive.
