WAKEFIELD—The Virginia Diner Inc. is pleased to announce and to be celebrating its 85th anniversary, making the Virginia Diner the longest running roadside diner in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Established in the heart of Virginia Peanut country, it was only natural that peanuts would end up on the Virginia Diner menu and quickly become a staple product in the Virginia Diner and in the local economy, making the Virginia Diner “The Peanut Capital of the World.”

The celebration of the company’s 85th anniversary is taking place all year, but will culminate the weekend of September 25-28. The events will begin with a ceremony Sept. 25 at 12:30 p.m. There will be a presentation of a letter of recognition, and a House Joint Resolution by the elected officials of our Commonwealth.

Attending the open house will be U.S. Congressman Randy Forbes, Delegate Roslyn Tyler, Deputy Commissioner Charles Green and many other state and local officials. Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Todd Haymore will present a gubernatorial proclamation honoring the VA Diner.

With such a long standing partnership working towards the same goal of promoting Virginia’s goods and services, The Virginia Diner is honored to be sharing this milestone year of 2014 with the “Virginia’s Finest” trademark program. Celebrating the 25th year of “Virginia’s Finest,” a designation from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), “Virginia’s Finest” highlights top quality Virginia produced and processed products. Only Virginia products that meet or exceed quality standards are part of the “Virginia’s Finest” Program.

A celebration of the longevity of such an established diner would not be complete without the recognition of the previous and current owners, staff, and community that built our famed reputation. An open invitation is extended to all who wish to celebrate Virginia Diner’s legacy of southern hospitality, quality food and Virginia’s gourmet peanuts.
