FRANKLIN—Two boys were riding their skateboards on Woods Trail south of Route 635 at about 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, when one of them was struck by a passing car, said Sgt. Michelle Anaya, Virginia State Police spokeswoman.

The 14-year-old boy was flown to Norfolk General Hospital by the Nightingale service. Anaya said the boy had non-life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, the driver, a 17-year-old female juvenile, was charged with reckless driving.

Anaya said the teen claims that she was behind another vehicle and did not see the boy. Speed was not a factor, the spokeswoman added.
