CARRSVILLE—Mildred Hedgepeth Darden, 96, widow of John Watkins Darden, passed away on Sept. 10, 2014, at her home.
She was a daughter of the late Thomas Gould and Sarah Parker Hedgepeth. She was also predeceased by one daughter, Betty Jane Darden; two stepsons, George Darden and William Edward Darden; two sisters, Edith Vasser and Daisy Cutchins; and seven brothers, Horace, Elliott, Clifton, Cristy, James, Lloyd and William Hedgepeth.
Mrs. Darden had retired as a newspaper carrier for The Suffolk News-Herald and was a Baptist.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Patty O’Neal (Ralph) and George Darden; four great-grandchildren, Rebecca Dunn, Kim Cullipher, Amber O’Neal and Emily Darden; and several great-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Micah Voight officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk.
A visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
