BOYKINS—Gladys Evelyn Hill Burton Stevens, 91, affectionately known as Hilly, of Milton, Delaware, passed away peacefully in her sleep in her daughter’s home in Boykins, Virginia, on Sept. 9, 2014.
She was born on Dec. 23, 1922, in Middleford, Seaford, Delaware, to William Hill of DC (DeWitt Clinton) and Enna V. Hill. She graduated from the Beebe Hospital School of Nursing, Lewes, Delaware, in 1943. She worked her entire career at Beebe Hospital, retiring in 1985.
Hilly was a kind, loving, and caring person, always thinking of others. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend, who will be missed greatly. Her strength was beyond measure when caring for her children, family and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters and a son, William V. “Randy” Burton, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, John C. “Jack” Burton II, the father of her children, and her second husband, Frank H. “Pete” Stevens.
Hilly is survived by her four children, J.C. Burton III (Diane) of Lewes, Jane Burton Darden (John) of Boykins, Darryl L. Burton of Smyrna, Charles E. Burton (Dawn) of Coolspring; and her stepchildren, Anna Stevens of Richmond, Texas, Paul Stevens of New Braunfels, Texas, Melody Kent (Brad) of Houston, Texas; a chosen daughter, Billie B. Edwards of Windsor, Virginia; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gerry B. Hill (Gloria) of Fort Myers, Florida.

The memorial service will be on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m. in the Lewes Presbyterian Church, Lewes.
