Franklin man arrested for firing gun, crack cocaine possession

FRANKLIN—Responding to the area of West Circle and Banks Street in regard to a person firing a gun on Saturday at 2 a.m., officers arrived and found that the suspect had already fled the area, said Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the Franklin Police Department.

While investigating in that location, officers received a tip that the suspect was in a white Lexus and was leaving from Roosevelt Street. After locating the vehicle on Washington Street, they pulled it over.

The suspect was removed from the passenger seat, and a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson pistol was recovered from the passenger side of the vehicle. A search of the suspect revealed a quantity of suspected crack cocaine on his person.

Marke Antonio Joyner, 29, of the 400 block of Washington Street, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession of a firearm while possessing drugs, reckless handling of a firearm and discharge of a firearm within city limits.

Joyner was remanded to Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
