FRANKLIN—If you’ve dropped by the Kangaroo Express in Franklin or any other location since Independence Day, then you know of the store campaign to collect money for servicemen and women and their families.

“We ask each associate to solicit from our guests if they want to contribute,” said Gary Medlin, district store manager for Franklin, Emporia and several sites in North Carolina.

Customers may add $1 to whatever they’re buying or just drop some cash in the box at the checkout. The money will go toward military support organizations.

Medlin added that organizations such as USO and Wounded Warriors are two of the biggest partners. Others beneficiaries include the American Red Cross Service, the U.S. Veterans Corps and Fisher House Foundation.

The campaign began in 2011, and already has raised $8.4 million.

Medlin estimates that the Franklin store has probably raised $2,500.

Residents can continue to donate through Labor Day.
