Lois B. Turner

Gatesville, N.C.—Lois Marie Byrum Turner, 87, formerly of US 158 Business West, died on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, in Carolina House of Elizabeth City.

Mrs. Turner was born in Chowan County on March 19, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Baker and Belle Byrum.

A homemaker, she was a member of Gatesville Baptist Church, and the former Gates County Chapter #335, The Order of The Eastern Star, where she had served as Worthy Matron.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 57 years, Haywood A. Turner; by sisters, Marybelle Bass and Sarah Casper; and by brothers, Carroll, Rufus, Raye, Baker, Jarvis and Edward Lee Byrum.

Surviving are her sons, Edward A. Turner and wife, Glenda, of Camden, and Dr. Harold L. Turner and wife, Dwan, of Elizabeth City; six grandchildren, Allen Turner and wife, Sharon, and their daughter Emma Grace, Jay Turner and wife, Tori, and Kathy, Michael, Sarah and Laura Turner.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Gatesville Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. David Turner. A private burial will follow in the Gatesville Cemetery.

Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, in the church social hall immediately following the service on Wednesday, and other times at the residence.
