William E. Jones Sr.

SEDLEY—William Elisha “Bill” Jones Sr., 89, passed away on Aug. 2, 2014, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Jones was born in Nansemond County on Nov. 3, 1924, a son of the late Dewey and Claudine Jones.

He was an Army Veteran of World War II, and had retired from the city of Franklin with over 30 years of service. He was Baptist and a former Fire Chief of the Sedley Volunteer Fire Department.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by a daughter, Lynne J. Kea, and three sisters, Thelma Atkins, Jackie Branch and Jean Albertson.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Elna Forrest Jones; two daughters, Venita J. Hewitt (John) of Sedley, and Lou Anne Davis (Jeff) of Courtland; one son, William E. “Billy” Jones Jr.; a son-in-law, Buddy Kea of Ivor; three sisters, LaRue J. Brittle (Sidney) of Sedley, Molly J. Fowler (Steve) of Suffolk, and Joni J. Joyner (Gene) of Dendron; three brothers, Dewey Jones Jr. (Gayle) of Trinidad, Colorado, Vernon Jones (Sue Ann) and Frank Jones, all of Suffolk; five grandchildren, Trey Kea (Tara), Jay Hewitt (Danielle), Dan Kea (Brad), Elizabeth Railey and Sonny Davis; and four great-grandchildren, Peyton Kea, Sophia Hewitt, Forrest Kea and Jackson Railey.

The memorial service with military honors will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6, in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Rita Kanten officiating.
