Bass club raises money for Area 29

FRANKLIN—Special Olympics Virginia Area 29 and Three Rivers Bass Tournament Series teamed up together to sponsor a Benefit Bass Tournament on July 12, which was open to all boating anglers.

Taking first place out of 21 boats was the team of Bob Holt and Matt Holt with four bass weighing a total of 15.97 pounds. The father-and-son team also weighed the heaviest bass of the day at 6.59 pounds. It was caught by Matt Holt.
The team of Keith Vick and K.J. Vick, also father and son, came in second place with five bass weighing 13.08 pounds. In third place was the team of Jamie Nealy and Greg Ball with five bass weighing 9.49 pounds.
Taking fourth place was the team of Ryan Harrell and Wade Harrell with five bass weighing 8.74 pounds, followed in fifth place by the team of Harvey Umphlett and Jerry Bradshaw with four bass weighing 8.45 pounds.

More than $700 was raised to benefit Special Olympics Virginia Area 29 with the bass club donating half of the tourney fees along with an additional $100. That figure also included extra donations from individual anglers, and the Vick father-and-son team gave their second-place winnings back.
Forty-one bass anglers participated in the tournament.
“We want to thank all the anglers who participated today,” said Doug Williams, an officer with the bass club. “We hope we can make this a bigger event next year and hope we have helped these great athletes to achieve their dreams.”
