Cleder R. Dickerson

FRANKLIN—Cleder Oretha Reid Dickerson, who was born on Sept. 5, 1925, in Southampton County to the late Charlie J. and Martha S. Reid. Cleder, slipped away quietly at Riverside Regional Medical Center on Thursday, July 10, 2014.
Cleder was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Calvin Dickerson; two brothers, James Reid, and Charles Reid; a sister, Mabel Jones; a granddaughter, Shirley Kelly; and a grandson, Michael Williams.
Cleder leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy her daughters: Doris R. Williams (Ray) of Hayward, California; Lucy Mae Smith of Richmond; Helen Dickerson, and Frances D. Blowe of Virginia Beach; Florence D. Odom (Curtiss) of Decatur, Georgia; Denise D. Turner of Zuni; Calveta D. Odom (Howard) of Suffolk; and Cleo Janet Dickerson of Chesapeake; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eliza Watson and Martha Works of Hampton, and Edith DeLoatch of Chesapeake; four brothers: Rubin Reid (Paige) of Glenarden, Maryland; Garland Reid (Jacinta) of Mitchell, Maryland; Roger Reid (Maggie) and George (Dollie) of Hampton; sisters-in law, Eunice Dickerson of Franklin, Lillie Reid of Greenville, North Carolina, and Shirley Reid of Portsmouth; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Cleder Oretha Reid Dickerson was a long-standing member at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 1071 Carrsville Hwy, Franklin.
The homegoing service will take place on Friday, July 19, at 1 p.m. in Piney Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Alfred D. Brown Sr., officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
