Alonzo E. Carmony

BOYKINS—Chief Petty Officer Alonzo Emory “Lon” Carmony (USN Retired), 77, a former resident of Chesapeake, passed away on July 14, 2014, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Carmony was born in Ewing, Virginia, a son of the late Samuel and Lucy Carmony.

He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Lois Louise Carmony, who passed away on April 8, 2013. He had retired from the Navy, and also retired from civil service. He was a 32nd degree Mason raised in the Norview Lodge and associated with the Boykins Lodge, and was a member of the American Legion.

Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Sherry Carmony and Judy Leeann Best and husband, Michael, all of Chesapeake; one sister, Myrtle C. Davis, of Middlesboro, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Ayers, Lauren Best, Tyler Ayers and Taylor Best; many nieces and nephews and special friends, John Moore Drewry, Joey and Gwen Johnson, and the ladies of the Hungry Rooster restaurant.

At Mr. Carmony’s request, his ashes will be buried at sea by the Navy.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, in Wright Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, and suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Boykins Fire and Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 347, Boykins, VA 23827.
