ISLE OF WIGHT—In preparation for the 2014-2015 school year, Division Superintendent Dr. Katrise Perera has announced additional administrative changes and shifts.

The first of these changes include the selection of Smithfield Middle School’s new principal, as well as naming individuals to fill the math and science coordinator positions.

Westside Elementary’s assistant principal, Fred Eng, has been tapped to take the helm at Smithfield Middle School. Eng brings to his new assignment considerable experience in public education. Prior to moving into the principalship, Eng has taught at a variety of educational levels, elementary through high school, served as Windsor Elementary’s lead teacher and also has been an assistant principal at both Westside Elementary and Windsor Middle School. Eng will host a “Meet and Greet” at Smithfield Middle School for the faculty and staff on Thursday, July 24, at 4 p.m., followed at 6 p.m. by session for parents, students and community members.

Heather Greer has been selected to step into the division’s Elementary Math and Science Coordinator position. Greer is an Isle of Wight County resident and joins the school division from Hampton City Schools where she has served for several years as a science specialist.

Laura Cummings will work alongside Greer as the coordinator of secondary math and science. Cummings is a veteran with the Isle of Wight School Division, working most recently with the math intervention program at Smithfield Middle School. Both Greer and Cummings have a wealth of knowledge and experience in math and science instruction and will be able to hit the ground running with their knowledge of the community.

Andrea Novak will move from serving as the assistant principal at Carrolton Elementary to serve in the split AP position between Carrsville Elementary and Georgie D. Tyler Middle School.
