FRANKLIN—The newly elected and reelected members of then Franklin City Council were sworn into their oaths of office on Monday by Judge Westbrook Parker.

City Registrar Jen Maynard also confirmed the election results, which were Greg McLemore being reelected to represent ward 3 with 122 votes; Mary Hilliard reelected to ward 5 with 151 votes; Frank Rabil elected to ward 6 with 128 votes; and Raystine Johnson-Ashburn reelected as mayor with 791 votes.

Ward 1’s Barry Cheatham, ward 2’s Benny Burgess and ward 4’s Mona Murphy, who were not up for election during this cycle, said they were ready to work with their current and new colleagues.

“I look forward to working with Councilman Rabil,” said Murphy. “Now we have a full team, and I know we can do great things for the city.”

Rabil himself was ready to get the ball rolling.

“I look forward to working with all members of council, as we strive and work collaboratively for the better of Franklin,” he said.

Johnson-Ashburn also wanted to thank her support team, as well as the supporters behind every member of city council.

“First, I want to thank my husband — he is truly a supportive husband,” she said. “When you don’t have a lot of family, you adopt one, and his family is truly my family.

“I am just thankful to everyone who who came out to support us.”

The mayor is also pleased to see Rabil serve.

“I am glad that he stepped forward and decided to represent the ward and city,” she said. “I, too, look forward to working with him.”

She also thanked her colleagues, including every man and woman on city council, as well as City Manager Randy Martin and City Attorney Taylor Williams.

“In the past two years, we have formed a team,” Johnson-Ashburn said. “The team means a lot to me. We will continue to work to team build and maintain the team.

“We will continue to move Franklin forward.”
