Farewell to a friend

In the June 10, 2011 edition of The Tidewater News, former managing editor Gwen Albers reported the following about one of our long-time employees:

Glynn Dansey, who will turn 87 on June 28, continues to travel 108 miles three days a week to deliver The Tidewater News.

A motor route carrier for 26 years, Glynn delivers to 159 customers in parts of Franklin, Courtland, Zuni and Ivor. The Franklin woman gets up at 2 a.m. to do her 3½-hour route, driving either a 2002 Buick Sentra or 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt.

“If the papers are extra large or there’s bad weather, it takes me longer,” she said.

Glynn also worked for The Virginian Pilot for 25 years.

She has no plans to retire from The Tidewater News.

“As long as I am able. I need to get out and do something,” she said. “I’ve met some nice people out there. They’re just like family and always remember me on my birthday, Easter and Christmas.”

Earlier this year, Glynn did stop delivering newspapers for The Tidewater News after nearly 30 years of dedicated service to this newspaper and her customers. We are sad to report that on Monday, only days after turning 90 years old, she passed away.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who will miss her and mourn her loss. We count ourselves among you.
