Throughout 2014 volunteer tutors within the Franklin School System have witnessed numerous instances of caring and dedication by teachers and administrators toward Franklin students. A prime example of their dedication occurred during Memorial Day Weekend at Franklin High and should be recognized by the greater community.

Despite a conflicting athletic meet in Northampton, over 85 FHS students attended a SOL (Standards of Learning) Academy from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. All teachers who were asked by Principal Travis Felts to voluntarily instruct agreed to do so despite the holiday interruption.

Saturday SOL academies have been ongoing at FHS throughout the school year.

Franklin is one of the few, if any area, public high schools whose teachers routinely sacrifice their Saturdays for students’ academic needs. Franklin students are fortunate to have them.
