COURTLAND—The Methodist Youth Fellowship of High Street United Methodist Church is debuting its summer fundraiser on a high note — several, in fact — when the Christian-based group Relinquish comes to perform. The event will on Saturday, June 7, in the church fellowship hall.

Diann Cooper, church youth leader, is organizing the event, and spoke about how the concert has come about.

“We met them in Blackstone at a winter retreat in February and booked them right away,” she said. “I had not heard of them before. They did perform then for the James River District Youth Council.

“They’re young, energetic, spiritually grounded. They bring a real presence on stage.”

According to the band’s website, “Relinquish was started by the young and ambitious lead singer, Luke Fortner. Singing in front of crowd since he was old enough to hold a mic, Luke has always known his mission in life: To glorify God with the voice he was blessed with.”

With him are Bailey Mann on bass; Jacob Kelley on drums; Josiah Sprankle on keyboards; and Matthew Spano on guitar; Derek Williams is the production manager.

The group has also reportedly been heard on local Christian radio stations in the country. Two songs, “Breath of Life” and “You Are My Fortress” have been in the top 10 on MTV’s Ourstage.com.

Admission is $15 per person or $40 per family, and the profits will be used for youth activities, such as going next month to Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia. Mission work will be most likely be in the area.

“There’s plenty to do here,” said Cooper.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and the concert is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. She asked that people use the back entrance to the fellowship hall.

The church is located at 31094 Camp Parkway. For more details about the concert, call Cooper at 556-5826. To learn more about the church, call 562-2030 or visit www.highstreetumc.net.
