Memorial Day is a time to educate our children about sacrifice

This letter concerns the school schedule on Memorial Day. I was very disappointed that the local school boards required the children, young people and teachers of our community to go to school on Monday. On a day when they could have been with their families, having a cookout, thinking about the meaning of the day, they could not do so.

It makes one wonder whether the school boards in question care about educating the children on the men and women of our communities who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

It was an opportune time to teach them about these sacrifices. The only excuse I heard…to make up a snow day. Well, it’s a reason, but not an excuse. To all of the children and young people, I am sorry that you missed this opportunity.
