Kenneth Wayne Crowder Jr., 23, of the 20000 block of Clark Circle, was taken into custody Friday late afternoon by the Meherrin Drug Task Force and Sheriff’s department.

At the time of the violation, which reportedly took place Feb. 19, Crowder worked as a general laborer in the Public Works division of Isle of Wight County. He was on duty when marijuana and a weapon were discovered. The evidence was found in his car, though it was parked on county property.

Crowder was soon fired after the violation.

The charges were: Possession of over one pound of marijuana with intention to distribute; conspiracy to sell marijuana; and possession of a firearm while in possession of over one pound of marijuana.

Capt. Rick Gaddis of the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office said that Crowder was directly indicted. The matter went before a grand jury in this case, and the issue goes straight to circuit court.

Crowder will be appointed counsel on Wednesday, April 23, in Isle of Wight County Circuit Court.
