Daniels, Boney win third bass tournament

GASBURG—This past Saturday was round three of the Three Rivers Bass Tournament Series. The tournament launched from Pea Hill Creek Landing on Lake Gaston.

The team of Billy Daniels and Brent Boney took first place with five bass weighing 17.66 pounds. Boney also weighed the heaviest bass of the day, a 6.08 pound fish.

“Most of our fish came from dock fishing on the main part of the lake,” said Boney, “using Sinko lures and black and blue jigs.”

Second place went to the team of Keith Vick and K.J. Vick with five bass 13.12 pounds. The team of Mike Scott and Jeremy Scott came in third place with five bass weighing 13.08 pounds, and following in fourth was the team of Harvey Umphlett and Jerry Bradshaw with five bass weighing 11.48 pounds. In fifth place was David Nunnally with five bass weighing 11.40 pounds.

Twelve teams weighed in a total of 51 bass. Most of the bass weighed were believed to be male bass, although a few females were caught.

The organization will host a tournament that is open to the public in the near future. The first one of the year will be on Saturday, May 2, on the Nottoway River at the Highway 258 public boat landing. Registration for that tournament will end at 6:15 a.m. Fishing will last from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
