Lady Broncos tennis team loses close one

FRANKLIN—The Franklin High School Girls Tennis team swung back into action Monday against Brunswick High School.
With only five players, the Lady Broncos forfeited the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles matches to start the match down 0-2.
Franklin’s Brianna Karmilovich, Sylvanna Bocook and Shadeejah Hunt won their singles matches and Maura Zurfluh lost her match making the score 3-3. Cheyenne Banks playing No. 4 singles was down 1-6 before charging back to win 8-6 and giving Franklin a 4-3 lead heading into doubles play.
Brunswick’s No. 2 duo of Destiny Stith and Ambia Coleman dispatched Banks and Hunt to tie the match at 4-4. At the No. 1 doubles, Franklin’s team of Zurfluh and Karmilovich battled Lashay Lee and Candace Jones. In a seesaw match that produced several lead changes, Brunswick’s Lee and Jones eventually won the set in a tie break, 9-8 (7-1), to give the Lady Bulldogs the 5th match point and the 5-4 victory.
