Franklin tennis drops two

FRANKLIN—The Franklin High School Girls Tennis team played back-to-back matches on Wednesday and Thursday against Greensville High School and Northampton High School (Eastville), respectively. The Greensville Lady Eagles won 8-0 as the Lady Broncos struggled to find the courts Wednesday. The No. 3 doubles match was not played due to darkness.

The Lady Broncos fared better ON Thursday, losing 4-5 to Northampton. Franklin split the single matches with the Lady Yellowjackets for a 3-3 match score going into doubles. Brianna Karmilovich, Sylvanna Bocook and Cheyenne Banks won their singles matches for Franklin.

The highlight of the match was a 3-hour, 3-set duel at the No. 5 singles between Franklin’s Sylvanna Bocook and Northampton’s Sara Gildo. Bocook won the first set 6-4, lost the second set 4-6, then came back to win the third set in a tie break 7-6 (7-4). The Lady Broncos lost the first and second doubles, giving Northampton the 5 match points needed to win. Franklin’s duo of Bocook and Hunt won the third doubles to make the final score 5-4 in favor of Northampton. Franklin is 1-5 in the district, 1-1 in conference.
