Spring events finally begin

This weekend the weather is projected to be mostly sunny today and Sunday, with highs reaching 77 on and 81, respectively.

It’s going to be a great weekend, and featured will be several events, including two that will take you back in time.

Organizers have worked around the year on the annual Renaissance Faire and the Down Home Day, both in Courtland.

The Renaissance Faire, which will be at the Southampton County Fair Grounds on both days, will celebrate the bards of the 16th century, including William Shakespeare. The event will be on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Down Home Day, in its 10th year, will be at the Southampton Heritage Village and Agriculture and Forestry Museum from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Activities about how people used to get by in the area in the late 19th- and early 20th-century are planned.

We encourage people to get out and enjoy the weather, especially after this harsh winter, at these, or any of the other spring events going on in Western Tidewater.
