Franklin – Raymond Eugene Mason, 86, passed away April 9, 2014 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. Mr. Mason was born in Rockbridge County, VA and reared in Franklin. He was the last of six children of the late Charles Raymond and Eddie Belle Duff Mason. He was predeceased by two sisters, Lucille Briley and Mary Frances Ball and three brothers, Hunter, Carl and Wallace. Mr. Mason was an Army veteran and a retired Supervisor in the Paper Mill for Union Camp Corporation. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing and being with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Johnson Mason; one daughter, Tammy Mason Montgomery (Gary) of Powhatan; two sons, Greg Mason (Belinda) and Ronnie Mason (Pat) both of Franklin; four grandchildren, Cheryl Mason Drake (Eric), Brent R. Mason (Stephanie) and Austin and Hunter Montgomery; three great-grandchildren, Brooklynn and Garrett Drake and Dawson Joyner; a host of nieces and nephews and his faithful cat, Tom.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 PM Saturday, April 12, at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. James H. Hyatt, Jr. officiating with burial to follow at Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and suggest memorial donations be made to the “Brent R.
