HOOVER, ALA.—The funeral for John Albert “Jack” Beaton Jr., 83, will be on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. The Rev. Bill Gandy and Pastor Buddy Gray will officiate. Burial will follow in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 5, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Chapel of Radney Funeral Home.
Mr. Beaton passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Trinity Medical Center.
He was born on June 2, 1930, in Norfolk, Va., to the late John Albert Beaton Sr. and Mary Shepard Brown Beaton.
He was an active member of Hunter Street Baptist Church.
Mr. Beaton served in the United States Navy for four years and was a member of the National Guard for two years.
He worked for Frigidaire for over 35 years and was the district manager for 10 years.
Mr. Beaton was an outdoorsman and a people person. He was a member of the Boy Scout organization in Charlotte, N.C. for eight years. Mr. Beaton coached Peewee Football and Little League Baseball in both Charlotte, N.C. and Atlanta, Ga. He loved his family and will be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Shelvie Jean Gandy Beaton of Hoover; daughters, Mary Winfield Beaton of Suwannee, Kimberly Ann Martenn of Suwannee and Angela Lynn Lokey (Robert), of McCalla; son, John Albert Beaton III (Kathy), of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren, Kristopher Martenn, Jessica Lauren Mitchell (Mitch) and Gregory Jose Tirado; and great-granddaughter, Makayla Mitchell.
The family will accept flowers, or memorial contributions may be made to Providence Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2950 Coosa County Road 459, Rockford, AL 35136.
