Robert K. Mackan

FRANKLIN—Robert Kaeffer “Mutt” Mackan, 78, passed away on March 20, 2014.
He was a native of Norfolk, a son of the late Horace Kaeffer and Della Greaver Mackan, and was predeceased by two half-brothers, George Giles and Robert Edward Giles.
Bob was a graduate of Granby High School, where he was a first state chair saxophone player and a graduate of the Norfolk Division of William and Mary (Old Dominion University).
He had been a former Sheet Plant Division Accountant for Union Camp Corporation prior to owning Mackans Office Supply in Franklin.
Bob was a Navy veteran and member of High Street United Methodist Church. He made it a point to always help those in need; and when he greeted you, he made you feel like one of the family with heartfelt joy and affection.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 50 years, Margaret Roberson Mackan; daughters, Mary Christy Morris and Susan M. Jones and her husband, Brian; brother-in-law, William J. Roberson Jr.; half-brother, James A. Giles; grandchildren, Taylor Kaeffer Morris, Lindsey Nicole Morris, Alex Daniel Jones and Jason Mackan Jones; and nieces, Joyce G. Rottler, Della Sue McGaha and Melissa R. Schmidt.
The memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, in High Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Ashley officiating.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church, and suggests memorial donations be made to High Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 218, Franklin, VA 23851.
