COURTLAND—A new trial date has been set for a Boykins man accused of child abuse.

Edward Person Sr., 35, formerly of Margarettsville, N.C., was scheduled for trial on Tuesday in Southampton County Circuit Court. His new trial has been set for Tuesday, June 10.

He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment last October.

Person and Wanda Singletary were arrested in early May following an investigation that began in January 2013, according to Maj. Gene Drewery, spokesman for the Southampton County Sheriff’s Department.

Person faces charges of aggravated malicious wounding, assault and battery and two counts of assault and battery of a family member. Some of the incidents date to fall and winter of 2010.

None of the charges against Wanda Singletary were certified.

The children remain in foster care.
