FRANKLIN—Mr. Beverley Frost “Bev” Carson, 85, of Franklin, died on March 13, 2014. He was born in Wakefield, Va., the son of the late Venona Sears and Baylis Rector Carson Sr.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anne Reese Carson; son, Thomas Frost Carson; daughter, Beverley Carson Casper and her husband, Robert; daughter, Mary Carson Jones and her husband, Alan; grandchildren, Mary Claire, Carson and Abby Jones; Samuel and Mary Casper; brother, John Carson and his wife, “Tour;” and other brothers- and sisters-in law, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He also was pre-deceased by his beloved mentor and neighbor, Dr. S. Burt Ellis.

Bev graduated from Wakefield High School in 1946. He attended Virginia Tech and the University of Richmond before graduating from the School of Pharmacy at the Medical College of Virginia in 1953.

He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity while at Richmond.

Bev served in the U.S. Army from 1954 until 1956 in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Bev loved horses and won many jousting tournaments during his youth. He was a very talented musician, and played in “The Virginians,” a Big Band that played across southeastern Virginia in the mid-1950s to ‘60s.

Bev was passionate about pharmacy, and will be remembered as a kindhearted, caring, and generous pharmacist who loved and respected his customers. He owned Jones Drug in Franklin for 23 years, and worked at numerous pharmacies across eastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina for a career that spanned 50 years.

Bev was a member of the Wakefield Masonic Lodge No. 198 for 64 years. He was also a member of the Franklin Lions Club, the American Legion, and Franklin Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 15, from 4 until 6 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home, 206 W. 4th Ave., Franklin.

The memorial service with military honors to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, March 16, at 3 p.m. in Franklin Baptist Church, 208 N. High St., Franklin. Burial will follow the service at the Wakefield Cemetery in Wakefield, and there will be a reception at Wakefield Baptist Church, 104 W. Church St., Wakefield.
