FRANKLIN—It’s heartbreaking, and it happens.

Virtually every day, children are exploited and lured away from their families by cyber sexual predators.

“We (the police) feel it is important for parents to know in this age of technology what dangers there are to their children in relation to predators who use the Internet to lure potential victims,” said Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the Franklin Police Department.

“The information provided in the seminar will, hopefully, engage parents to be aware of what their children are doing and who they are in communication with as it relates to the internet and social media.”

The FBI and its partners are deeply committed to stopping these crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice through the Innocent Images National Initiative.

The Norfolk FBI will hold a free seminar on Crimes Against Children, Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Franklin Police Department, 1018 Pretlow Street, Franklin. The seminar is a part of the FBI’s Aware.Prepare.Prevent Campaign (APP), an effort designed to educate the community on a variety of topics.
