COURTLAND—Harry Arthur Still, 84, a former resident of the Peninsula and widower of Ida Askew Still, passed away Feb. 4, 2014. He was a son of the late Lee Roy and Marie Dishout Still, and was predeceased by a daughter, Frances S. Barnes, and a sister, Alma Burger.

A Navy veteran during the Korean War, he was a Gunner’s Mate aboard the USS Wisconsin from 1947 to 1952. He was a retired truck driver for Gwaltney of Smithfield, and a member of Buckhorn Baptist Church, Como, N.C.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Gloria Muther, Betty Jo Cates (James), Brenda Olsen (John), Jean Greene, Carol Harris (Walter), Donna Machado (Santos) and Debbie Jeter (Lew); sons, Ricky Still (Theresa) and Kenneth Still; sisters, Ester Eberhart and Alice Patterson; brothers, Lee Roy Still and Walter Still; 24-plus grandchildren; and 36-plus great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Buckhorn Baptist Church with the Rev. Sean Gallagher and Pastor John Hackney officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Wright Funeral Home.
