COURTLAND—Both Southampton County and Isle of Wight County school systems, as well as Franklin City Public Schools, have made the decision to stay closed Friday to students and teachers.

“Due to the icy road conditions, all IWCS Schools will be closed tomorrow, Jan. 31,” stated spokeswoman Kenita Bowers on Thursday afternoon in an email. “All 12-month employees and school administrators are to report on a two-hour delay. All parents and staff have been sent this information via our Connect 5 messaging system. Our weather make up scenarios can still be found on the division website, as well.”

Jeff Zeigler, community relations coordinator for The Children’s Center, also notified the newspaper that all Early Head Start and Head Start services would be closed Friday.

However, Community Childcare at the Texie Camp Marks Children’s Center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Further, Community Childcare at the Suffolk Children’s Center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Employees are encouraged to contact their supervisor about work schedule.
