Winter wonderland

A couple of weeks ago during a particularly brutal stretch of cold weather, we took a little jab at local school systems for cancelling a day of classes due to the low temperatures. In all seriousness, school officials clearly have the safety and welfare of this community’s children in mind when making such decisions, which is why we agree with the decision to cancel on Wednesday and Thursday due to icy road conditions.

We’re pretty sure local students agree with it as well.

For a region that is not routinely blessed with snowfall each winter, most everyone, except perhaps the parents forced to scramble for last-minute daycare arrangements, seems to enjoy the break in routine that even a couple inches of the white stuff can provide. Proof of that theory can be found on the smiling faces featured on page B1 of today’s newspaper.
