Stamey V. Everhart Jr.

LYNCHBURG-Stamey Victor Everhart, Jr., 81, of Lynchburg passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 after a brief courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Nancy Louise Holt Everhart for 57 years.

Born February 26,1932, in Lexington, N.C., he was a son of the late Stamey V. Everhart, Sr. and Julia Morton Everhart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Everhart Campbell.

Stamey attended N.C. State University and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a retired Sergeant with the Virginia State Police with 30 years of service and a member ofTimberlake Christian Church. He was a member of the Ivor Volunteer Fire Departmentand the Lynchburg Elks Lodge. He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of Lynchburg Marshall Lodge #39 for 60 years, Scottish Rite and Sudan Temple in New Bern, NC. He loved fishing, hunting, playing golf and was an avid fan of Nascar racing. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife he leaves to cherish his memory three children, Stamey Victor Everhart III and wife, Lisa of Lynchburg, Everett Daniel Everhart and wife, Denise of Waynesboro, Joel Andrew Everhart and wife, LaVerne of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Julie Everhart Hughes and husband, Donald of Roseland, Matthew Andrew Everhart of Lynchburg, Joseph Daniel Everhart and wife, Renee of Roseland and Amanda Hope Everhart of Lynchburg; a great-grandchild, Alexandria Grace Hughes of Roseland; a brother-in-law, Theodore R. Campbell of New Bern, NC; and many other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Timberlake Christian Church, 20261 Lynchburg Highway, Lynchburg, VA 24502.

A Celebration of Stamey’s Life and Faith will be conducted at 1 p.m., Thursday, January 23,2014 at Timberlake Christian Church by the Rev. Dr. Robert Mooty. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Masonic Rites and Virginia State Police honors.
