FRANKLIN—The Franklin Broncos Boys basketball team continues to make noise in conference 41 as it gets a win over the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School on Thursday night. The Broncos move to 5-1 in the conference and won by a score of 69-51.

The boys from Franklin started the game out with great intensity, as they had the highest scoring first quarter this year. Franklin found themselves ahead 31-11 after the first few minutes of the quarter.

“The coaching staff is continuing to stress starting the game out with intensity. We started tonight with great hustle and determination to get after the ball,” head coach Danny Dillon said. “God continues to pour out on these boys and it’s special to see!”

They held onto the lead heading into halftime up by a score of 44-22. The Broncos held Adam Scott, Appomattox’s top scorer, to 0 points in the first 16 minutes of the game. On the Broncos’ side, freshman Fred Lassiter had a career first half, as he scored 20 points.

The Broncos would get up by as much as 28 points in the third quarter and would cruise to the finish line with 9 players in the scoring column.

“I’m really impressed with this team and their unselfishness,” Dillon said. “They look to better each other, and in turn, it pays off with wins like tonight. In the end, isn’t that what it’s all about anyway, showing love for one another and making each other better?”

Franklin’s leading scorers were Fred Lassiter with 22 points and 14 rebounds, while junior Corey Porter and senior Marcus Stephens both dropped 13 points apiece. Terry Warren had a strong night down low with 8 points and 13 rebounds.

Appomattox Regional Governor’s School point leaders were Marcus Leach with 19 points and 9 rebounds, while Nate Mason chipped in 10 points and passed for 5 assists.

“To win in overtime last week to this team and answer the bell tonight, like we did, is special,” Dillon said. “We have a young team and they grow with every game.”
