FRANKLIN—Franklin Public Schools will operate on a two hour delay on Wednesday, Jan. 8, announced Supt. Dr. Michelle Belle on Tuesday afternoon. S.P. Morton will open at 10:20 a.m., and J.P. King and Franklin High schools will open at 9:40 a.m.

“We are not as concerned with the road conditions, as we are with many of our children being ‘in the dark’ at their bus stops in the expected temperatures at the regular bus pick-up times,” Belle said. “We are looking forward to the warmer temperatures for the remainder to the week.”

Isle of Wight County Public Schools will open at their regular times, said Kenita Bowers, who is the spokeswoman.

Owing to the intense cold weather predicted for Tuesday, the decision was made Monday to delay opening for two hours. This worked well for the schools, and coupled with an expected temperature increase, the decision was made to return to regular openings.

Regular time for S.P. Morton Elementary School is 8:20 a.m.-3:20 p.m. J.P King Jr. Middle and Franklin High schools regularly operate from 7:40 a.m.- 2:45 p.m.
