FRANKLIN—The Franklin Broncos boy’s basketball team got a huge conference win against the Northampton Yellow Jackets this past Friday night in the FHS gymnasium. The final score was the Broncos 73 to the Yellow Jackets 48.

Both teams came out hitting shots and settling into a 20-15 score at the end of one. The Broncos defense stepped up in the second quarter and held Northampton to just 6 points for the quarter. With the Broncos leading 36-21 heading into the halftime, they knew that had to keep up the intensity and they did just that, said Coach Danny Dillon.

Franklin was led by Fred Lassiter’s 9-point third quarter, where the Broncos outscored Northampton 20-11 to end the quarter. The Broncos finished strong winning all four quarters and stopping Northampton’s top three scorers.

“Northampton is one of the top teams in our new conference come playoff time, so this was a huge win,” said Dillon.

“We were hoping to come out giving everything we had from the tip and we did it,” he added. “The boy’s worked three hours a day over Christmas break putting work in and it paid off for us tonight. I just love the effort they have and the love that they are showing one another . . . so unselfish tonight.”

Franklin was lead by Freshman Fred Lassiter, who recorded a triple double, having 24 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists and Senior Marcus Stephens, who put in 16 points and dropped 7 dimes. Junior Corey Porter added 14 points. The Broncos ended up having nine players in the scoring column. Northampton’s leading scorer was Zeb Carter with 10 points and had 6 assists, while Brandon Anderson added nine points.

“Fred put on the best display of a freshman I’ve ever seen. I can’t remember the last time we had a player get a triple double, let alone a freshman,” said Dillon.

The Broncos travel to Northampton on Friday night for a rematch.
