Drewryville man robbed

A Drewryville man reported he was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon on Main Street in Courtland, according to Maj. Gene Drewery, spokesman for the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office.

Carlos Turner, 32, said he hitchhiking from Franklin, and while he was walking to the on-ramp leading toward 58 West, a dark blue Chevy Malibu came from the city and stopped on the ramp. Turner got in the vehicle and asked for a ride to his mother’s home in Courtland.

The vehicle was driven by a black male, described as approximately 30 to 32 years old, wearing a red New York Yankees hat with white lettering. Turner asked to be dropped off at the library in Courtland. The suspect pulled out a handgun and took Turner’s wallet and cell phone.

The Sheriff’s Office is looking for any information the public may have on this crime. Information can be given anonymously at the Crime Line 653-2900.
