WINDSOR—The Town of Windsor just added a new member to its staff, filling a vacancy in the administrative branch the town has had for several months.

Christy Newsome, 34, a hometown girl, was hired last week as interim town treasurer, effective Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Newsome, who has been working in the office part time since July, has been training for the position since late November, she said.

“I’ve been working with the town manager and other staff members in the finance division, getting familiarized with the system,” Newsome said.

“This is the kind of work I have experience in,” she continued, with a smile. “I am excited to be a member of the town staff.”

Newsome, a graduate of Windsor High School, started her career as a teller at the Bank of Sussex and Surry in Wakefield.

After nearly three years, she moved to the Dollar Tree Corporate office in Chesapeake. Her duties included accounting/accounts payable.

But in 2005, she decided to move to Texas, where she managed an apartment complex, including rentals.

Newsome missed her family, she said, and returned to Virginia in 2009, settling in her hometown, Windsor.

“I love this town,” she said. “Many of the people are friends whom I’ve known all my life, plus my family lives in the area, as well.

“I am fortunate to be able to work here.”

“We are excited to have Christy on board as part of our team,” said Town Manager Michael Stallings.

“She has a great work ethic and energy that will help her fit in with our existing team.

“We expect great things out of Christy.”
