SUFFOLK—Down 6 points with 50 seconds to go, the Southampton Academy Raiders did not let that get them down in a rivalry game with Nansemond-Suffolk Academy.

After a few key shots and defensive stops, the Raiders had tied the game. Suffolk had a chance to win at the buzzer, but the player missed and sent the game to overtime.

Overtime was a back-and-forth affair, said Head Coach Jim Tribbett, and up one with 12 seconds left, a Suffolk player drove to the basket and was fouled. He made both free-throw shots, and put Suffolk up by 1 with 4.6 seconds left. The pass went in to Cam Hines, who took it at half court. Hines got in three dribbles and put up the shot near the free-twhrow line, and as the buzzer sounded, it went in the basket.

“It was a wonderful way to win by one just before Christmas,” said Tribbett. “It was a good game. It was back and forth the whole time.”

Tonee Hill led the way with 20 points. Hines had 13 points. Johnny Tribbett had 5 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists.

SA improves to 4-3 on the season.
