Marke Antonio Joyner, 29, of Washington Street, Franklin, was arrested after being treated for a leg injury at Southampton Memorial Hospital and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and five counts of shooting a firearm in public, said Captain Tim Whitt, spokesman with the Franklin Police Department. Whitt said that Joyner would not say what caused the lacerations to his leg.

On Sunday evening, officers were notified that shots were fired at Southern Foods Store in the 700 block of South Street, and while on their way, were told that someone had been shot. When they arrived, officers were unable to locate a victim or a suspect. Officers did locate a crime scene, and during the investigation learned that Joyner was a suspect.

Whitt said they discovered a shooting victim, Daryl Boone, 39, of Southampton County, was being treated for gunshot wounds to his legs and a foot at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Joyner was taken to Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
